Backwater – Sophie Bannan

Sophie Bannan is an artist and curator currently based in Auckland. We met while studying at the University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts, and this collaboration grew out of a conversation around her practice leading up to her MFA submission in 2015.

Sophie asked me to produce a publication as a component of her MFA, displayed as an exhibition at North Projects in June ’15. The book included her thesis and a collection of photographs, and was designed in a way that emphasized the range of text types (diary entries, emails, excerpts and quotes and prose) within the writing.
